Presentation Skills Training
2 day course, maximum 6 participants
Are you a professional presenter?
By that I mean are you presenting during working hours and getting paid
for it?
Do you want to improve your presentation skills?
You've found the right place.
It has been estimated that, worldwide, thirty million presentations will
be given today. Millions of those will fail. Millions more will make no
impact whatsoever. A small number will be memorable. The consequence of
a mediocre presentation can be hugely detrimental. In this one day workshop,
you will be given the tools to transform your presentations into professional
excellence.
Allow me to introduce myself...
Hello, I'm Patrick Tansey. I have been a professional public speaker
and presenter for over 30 years. Organisations engage me to speak at their
conferences and business meetings. Perhaps you have heard of me or even
seen me in action. I speak at an average of 100 events every year, and
regularly get rebooked. I am also founder member of the Professional Speakers
Association.
If you want to become a more polished, more professional presenter, this
is your opportunity to sign up for our workshop.
A Recognised Expert
Patrick (on left) is a regular contributor on BBC radio.
He is called in when the BBC requires a subject matter expert (SME) to
discuss topics such as Public Speaking; Work/Life Balance;
Humour as a Business Tool; etc.

"...I followed what you had taught
me and went through the training folder again and prepared my speech.
I used the 'cue cards' and broke the speech down into logical parts. I
then rehearsed what I was going to say. I delivered the speech without
a quiver in my voice! Thank you for giving me the confidence to be able
to deliver a good speech.."
Karen Ross, Rosie's Helping Hands Charity.
Typical Symptoms:
Dry mouth, flushed face, sweaty palm, knees shaking, hands shaking, fear
of forgetting or losing your place, fear of not impressing the audience
or losing them altogether...
Familiar...?
In the 'Book of Lists', the number one fear most people had was the fear
of public speaking. Fear of public speaking is quite common, but has a
greater negative impact on our lives than other fears have. For example,
if you have a fear of flying you can avoid this by choosing other means
of transport; the fear of animals can, for the most part, be controlled
by simply avoiding certain environments. However, communicating with others
is unavoidable.
Learn in a Friendly Environment
Standing up and speaking to an audience can be very daunting. I have
been doing this for over 30 years and I still get nervous. Why? Because
I know that a lot depends on what I say in the next few minutes. However,
my method of preparation ensures that the minute I start speaking, all
my nerves disappear. There are psychological reasons why we all feel nervous
doing this task. I will explain to you why this happens, and how you can
reduce the impact of an 'attack of nerves'. This training workshop, held
in a friendly and encouraging environment, aims to give you a consistent
and repeatable system to create great presentations and to overcome the
accompanying nerves.
The good news is that you are not alone. Most people, when making presentations,
suffer from one or more of the above listed symptoms. The better news
is that when you learn our SmarterBrain® System you will, over
a period of time; reduce your fear and anxiety to an acceptable and workable
level.
The First 3 Minutes
The first 3 minutes of a presentation is crucial. Paradoxically, the
first 3 minutes is where most presenters struggle. We will show you how
to make your first 3 minutes the most powerful part of your presentation.
Performance Anxieties
Presentation anxieties are what we call 'performance' anxieties.
You can have similar anxieties when taking part in competitive sports,
acting in a play, perhaps even during a karaoke session!
The difference with the demands of presenting is that very often your
job or promotion depends on your presentation skills.
The Reasons Behind It All
Performance anxieties occur because of an emotional change in our thinking.
You will learn why your brain is 'hardwired' to over-react when you are
called to make a presentation.
This workshop is not 'therapy'. It is a set of practical steps that will
enable you to incrementally introduce a system of presenting that
will improve your self confidence and your self esteem.
Each participant will given a video recording of their presentation.
Powerful Presentations
I'm sure that, like me, you have attended more than a few presentations.
How many of them were truly memorable, effective, and persuasive? If my
guess is right, your answer is 'very few'. The vast majorities fall into
what I call the Five Avoidable Traits (FAT).
- No clear point. How many times have you sat through
a presentation and, at the end, said to another attendee "What
was the point?"
- No audience benefit. The presentation fails to show how the
audience can benefit from the information presented. Whenever possible,
make sure that you point out to the attendees 'what is in it for them';
not 'what is in it for the organisation', not 'what is
in it for the planet', in this case it is purely a personal benefit.
- No clear flow. The sequence of information is so disordered
that it leaves the audience confused. By having a logical sequence,
you clarify, not confuse.
- Too detailed. Too many facts are presented, including facts
that are overly technical or irrelevant. The main point is obscured,
and also 'brain numbing' occurs.
- Too long. The audience loses focus and gets bored before the
presentation ends. How many times in your entire professional career
have you ever attended a presentation that was too short?
Make sure that your next presentation is lean, not FAT.
