Recruitment and Selection Skills

A 2 day on-site course

The appointment of staff is one of the most important functions in which any employee may become involved. As we recognise that our most valuable resource is our employees, the importance of making the right appointment is crucial to the success and well-being of any organisation.

Recruitment and selection has two main elements: recruiting the right person for the right job; and interviewing within the organisation's policy guidelines and complying with current legislation requirements.

Course designed for anyone who will be part of a recruitment and selection panel.

Recruitment and Selection - Course Aims and Objectives

At the end of the course the participants will be able to:

  • Memorise vital information
  • Plan and structure the interview
  • Understand the legal responsibilities of the interviewer
  • Be aware of the composition of the panel and of the panel members' responsibilities
  • Understand the importance of preparation, defining the position and the candidate criteria
  • Analyse application forms and prepare candidate "shortlists"
  • Demonstrate appropriate listening, questioning and note taking / record keeping techniques

On Recruitment and Selection training, we video record a simulated interview. This clip from an interview shows how the participants have learned the 8 elements of chairing an interview panel:

  1. Meet and greet
  2. Make sure the candidate is comfortable
  3. Introduce the chair and the panel
  4. Approximate length of interview
  5. Approximate number of questions
  6. Ground rules for note taking
  7. Empower candidate to request clarification
  8. Reiterate the position on offer

Fees

On-site: £1600 + VAT for two days, maximum of 8 participants (i.e. £200 + VAT per participant). This includes all training materials, manuals, etc.
Additional costs: Trainer's travel and overnight accomodation if required.
